Although everyone’s eyes are different, most vision is tested through a standard eye test with four prescription values but biometric eye tests does more. Because of this, it is difficult to get the most accurate results; therefore, glasses and contact lenses might not work as accurately as possible. All this can change with the new generation of biometric eye tests. Read on to find out more about this.
HOW DOES BIOMETRIC PRECISION LEAD TO BETTER EYESIGHT?
As mentioned above, a standard eye test will only use four standard prescription values. These four values will only suit around 2% of eyes correctly. This means that 98% of glasses and contact lens wearers do not have the precise prescription that will work best for them..
To understand how this new generation of biometryic eye tests will significantly improve vision, we must look at how it works. When light travels through the eye, it is refracted through different structures to form an image on the retina. All parts of the eye that light passes through play a crucial role in how we form our vision. Every part of every person’s eyes has a different property or refractive index. Determining these as precisely as possible enables vision optimisation. Standard eyesight tests don’t currently do this, which is why biometric eye tests are so valuable.
HOW DO BIOMETRIC EYE TESTS WORK?
Normal lenses are chosen and created in a standard eye test using the four standard prescription values. The biometric eye test captures more data using a new technology called the Rodenstock DNEye® Scanner. With this, we can determine thousands of different data points unique to each eye, giving a much more precise result than the standard eye test.
The scanning process will normally take about 2 minutes whilst seated comfortably at the machine. Once these parameters have been determined, optometrists can utilise this information to craft the perfect prescription lens. The information from the DNEye scanner can then be used for both glasses and contact lenses. This allows us to provide the optimal correction whether it is for spectacles or contact lenses.
HOW CAN I GET A BIOMETRIC EYE TESTS?
Currently, only select optometrists around the UK offer this kind of test. Dolphins Optometrists are proud to be one of these. We want our clients to receive the best and most accurate technology available for them. Improving the quality of vision subsequently improves the quality of life.
Julian Silburn, our resident Dispensing Optician, and our team of qualified and friendly Optometrists use these biometric tests to provide clients with the most accurate lenses.
If you would like to find out more about this new biometry technology or how to book a biometric eye test with us, please get in touch to discuss your options. One of our team will be happy to discuss these new biometry tests in more detail. Contact us today on 01444 454808 or hello@dolphinsoptometrists.co.uk.
