WHO ARE THEY?
Sea2See is a social enterprise that was created with the aim of cleaning up the oceans. They do this by collecting plastic waste and recycling it into eco-friendly glasses frames. Sea2See works in partnership with various NGOs, including Greenpeace, to help clean up our oceans. They collect plastic waste across Europe and Africa, helping to reduce pollution in our oceans. This plastic is then recycled and turned into eco-friendly glasses frames. The frames are made from 100% recycled plastic and are completely biodegradable. All of the profits from sea2see go towards funding their clean-up operations.
THE STATISTICS
Sea2See was founded in 2015 by Alessandro Lanteri, a former professional windsurfer. After seeing the huge amounts of plastic pollution in the ocean, he decided to do something about it. Together with co-founder Diego Saez Gil, they created sea2See. Its mission is to clean up the oceans and raise awareness of ocean pollution.
According to their website, they have saved tonnes of plastic from entering the oceans so far, and they are on track to save even more! Not only does this help protect marine life, but it also helps to reduce the number of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Furthermore, this helps to fight poverty in local communities as every waste collector in West Africa is paid €1 for every 5kg collected. Furthermore, as marine life is improved, those working in fishing communities will also benefit as they can catch, sell and eat more.
